Manufact

PROJECT OVERVIEW

  • Product: Manufact - a blockchain-powered authentication platform that uses tamperproof seals and digital tokens to verify the provenance of luxury goods and prevent counterfeiting.

  • Industry: Supply Chain / Luxury Goods Authentication (applicable to wine, cigars, coffee, honey, and other premium items)

  • Geographic Reach: Global (current clients in Nicaragua, Australia, and plans to expand)

  • BSV Integration Start Date: March 2022 (proof of concept completed by December 2022)

BUSINESS CHALLENGE

  • Supply Chain Risks: The luxury goods industry faces rampant counterfeiting, representing a $600 billion global issue. Legacy systems are unable to prevent fraud due to data silos, lack of traceability, tamper-prone labeling methods, and poor supply chain visibility.

  • Traditional System Limitations: Conventional anti-counterfeiting technologies such as barcodes and static serial numbers are easy to replicate or manipulate. Additionally, supply chain data held by centralized intermediaries can be altered or deleted.

WHY BSV

Reasons for Choosing BSV:

Manufact and its technology partner Elas chose BSV due to its high throughput, microtransaction capabilities, stable protocol, and support for immutable, timestamped data logs. BSV’s capacity to create unique digital assets from fresh coinbase outputs ensured maximum provenance—ideal for high-value goods.

Comparison to Other Blockchains:

Other blockchains were not considered fit-for-purpose due to higher transaction costs, scalability issues, and opaque provenance of token sources.

SOLUTION ARCHITECTURE

System Overview:

Manufact developed a blockchain-integrated authentication system in partnership with Elas Digital. Each product is sealed with a tamperproof NFC/RFID label embedded with blockchain-authenticated metadata. Consumers and stakeholders can scan these seals to verify a product’s origin, status (sealed/unsealed), and distribution trail.

Key Components:

  • Data Logging: Blockchain-stamped product data including manufacturer, location, production date, and destination.

  • Tokenization: Each product is linked to a unique digital token minted from a clean coinbase source.

  • IoT Integration: NFC, RFID, and heat/cold-sensitive seal technology for real-world product interaction.

Partner Role: Elas Digital provides the underlying blockchain solution and Coinbase Output Ledger functionality to guarantee unbroken provenance.

IMPLEMENTATION PROCESS

Rollout Phases:

  • March 2022: Manufact founded.

  • December 2022: Working proof of concept.

  • Early 2023: First client—Alex Gonzalez Cigars, via Mi Habana in Nicaragua.

  • Ongoing 2024: Expanding to wine, coffee, and honey producers.

Legacy Integration: While ERP integration is not detailed, blockchain data logging complements existing inventory systems through RFID/NFC scanning and location tracking.

Stakeholder Training: Minimal training required due to ease of use. Consumers scan seals using NFC-enabled smartphones. Manufacturers and distributors use dashboard tools for allocation and inventory tracking.

OUTCOMES & BUSINESS IMPACT

Quantifiable Improvements:

  • Seals provide real-time detection of tampering or geographic mismatches.

  • Each product has a unique digital twin on-chain, making counterfeiting significantly more difficult.

  • Enabled Mi Habana Cigars to launch a 500-box limited-edition line with verifiable authenticity.

Before vs After:

  • Before: Trust relied on packaging or centralized logs.

  • After: Tamper-evident packaging + immutable digital records enhance consumer trust and supply chain accountability.

Stakeholder Feedback: Consumers and manufacturers appreciate the ease of verifying provenance and the ability to detect diversion or tampering.

CHALLENGES & MITIGATIONS

Challenges:

  • Educating stakeholders on blockchain usage.

  • Ensuring seals are secure yet accessible.

  • Maintaining high data throughput without compromising on provenance.

Mitigation via BSV:

  • Use of Elas’ Coinbase Output Ledgers provides provable origin of every token.

  • Integrated NFC/RFID with layered tamperproof features addresses physical security needs.

  • BSV’s scalability ensures low latency for scanning events and token updates.

FUTURE VISION

  • Expansion Plans: Manufact is in talks with two wine manufacturers, a global coffee roaster, and an organic honey supplier. Seals are being tailored for new product types like wine bottles.

Future BSV Use Cases:

  • Broader tokenized tracking across logistics layers.

  • Potential for NFT-based ownership/authenticity certificates.

  • Real-time analytics and alerts for supply chain anomalies.

TESTIMONIAL HIGHLIGHTS

“What Manufact offers is provenance through the blockchain. Each ledger entry is a brand-new coin freshly minted from the coinbase and can be linked directly to the manufacturer.” — Ali Beydoun, CEO of Manufact
